Ontier strengthens Digital Law and Cryptocurrencies practice with hire of Gustavo Aceves in México

Ontier appoints expert in the regulation of cryptocurrencies and virtual assets in Latin America, Gustavo Aceves, as Head of Banking & Finance, Digital Law & Cryptocurrencies based in México.

He has extensive legal experience in finance and regulatory matters in the banking and financial sector, advising multilateral financial institutions, investment funds, brokerage firms, banks and technology companies, from prestigious law firms and global companies in Mexico and the United States. He collaborated with Moody's in the design and implementation of the regulatory risk mitigation strategy for Latin America, and advised Visa to promote competition and technological innovation in the regulatory framework for digital payments in Mexico. 

Gustavo Aceves is also an expert in the regulation of cryptocurrencies and virtual assets in Latin America, and has participated in international commercial arbitration under ICC rules and investment arbitration under ICSID rules. 

Gustavo says that the biggest challenge in the sector, is being at the forefront: “Technology is moving faster than law.  Being at the forefront of technological and regulatory advances is essential to be able to apply the right regulatory framework and design compliance strategies that drive our clients' business goals forward”.

Gustavo, who is a university professor of Private International Law, holds a law degree from the Universidad Panamericana (Guadalajara, Mexico, and Montreal, Canada) as well as studies at McGill University on International Commercial Arbitration and Global Business Regulation,  an LL.M. from The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University (Boston, United States) and a Master in International  Finance from Harvard Law School (Harvard Law School).
